Summer! Japan! Night! and Fireworks!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

It is morning, but talking about night again.

In these years, huge number of visitors from foreign countries come to Japan not only SAKURA (Cherry Blossom) season, but also in mid summer. According to TV news, one of the main purpose to visit Japan is to watch Japanese Fireworks. Foreigners interviewed by TV said that fireworks in Japan are quite different from those of their countries.

As TOUKA commands a fine view of Straits, Kitakyushu-city and Shimonoseki-city, we can see / hear fireworks somewhere around those area almost everyday.

Picture is firework behind Kaikyo Yume Tower in Shimonoseki, I took from the guest room this Wednesday. I guess the fireworks were set off around Kompira Park or its neighbor.

On Saturday next week, we will have a big firework show. “The 29th Kanmon Strait Firework Festival”

I’ve never see the show from TOUKA yet, but the fireworks can be seen much bigger than this photo. Because they will set off in front of Kaikyo Yume Tower, not behind.

So, it is very exciting for me to watch the firework, as well as the guests of the night.

We hope that many foreigners can watch and enjoy the fireworks on Kanmon Strait.

「夏だ！日本だ！夜だ！花火だぁ！」

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。おはようございます。

朝ですが、、、またまた夜の話題を。

近年外国人旅行客が増えているのは周知の話ですが、桜のシーズンと同様に、真夏を狙って訪日する観光客が少なくないようです。ニュースによると彼らの狙いは「日本の花火」を見ることらしく、インタビューを受けていた外国人によると、日本の花火は自国のそれとは全く違うものだそうです。

「灯火」は見晴らしがよく、関門海峡、北九州、下関が見えるので、ここのところほぼ毎日のようにどこかで打ち上げている花火が見え／聞こえます。

添付画像は今週の水曜日に撮ったものですが、下関の海峡ゆめタワーの背後に上がっている花火が写っています。おそらく金比羅公園かその近辺で打ち上げられたものだと推測します。

来週の土曜にはこの辺りで最大の花火大会が開催されます。ここ近隣では知らない人のいない「関門海峡花火大会」です。

この花火大会を「灯火」から見るのは今年が初めてなのですが、おそらく添付画像の花火よりははるかに大きく見えるはずです。なぜなら花火は背後ではなく、タワーの手前で打ち上げられるからです。

というわけで、その夜のゲストのみならず、自分にとっても花火大会ワクワクするイベントです。

関門海峡にあがる花火もまた、外国人旅行客に喜ばれるとよいなと感じています。

The Brand New City in Fukuoka!

Japanese Title (邦題)：「福岡県に新しい市誕生！」末尾に

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

“Kanmon” is unique area in Japan, I have thought for many years.

Because, “KAN=関” of “Kanmon” is named after Shimonoseki (下関).
And because “MON=門” of “Kanmon” is named after Moji (門司).

So, KANMON is a combined name of two different city, Shimonoseki & Moji* (*Moji used be a city) on either bank of Kanmon Straits.

It is most interesting that these two cities belongs to different Prefectures.

There is some other areas like this in Japan, but not so many.
For example KEIHIN(京浜), KEIYOU(京葉), MEISHIN(名神), etc.
These areas are way bigger area than KANMON.

In conclusion, Kanmon Straits are too narrow to be named after only one side.

It is so narrow that there is many funny customs in Kanmon.

For example, when people in Moji entertained guests from other place, they brought guest Shimonoseki for sightseeing and seafoods even different pref. On the other hand, people in Shimonoseki often come shopping across the Straits.

So do TOUKA. We post so many topics about the other bunk positively.

Recently we have an interesting finding. When we checked Facebook access information, we found that there are accesses from interesting city.

“Shimonoseki-shi, Fukuoka, Japan”

It seems Facebook assumes Shimonoseki as a city of Fukuoka. And we saw it very natural.

Anyway, we should increase the value of Kanmon together with Shimonoseki, no matter it belongs to Fukuoka or Yamaguchi.

「福岡県に新しい市誕生！」

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。おはようございます。

福岡県に新しい市が誕生！その名もSHIMONOSEKI!

事あるごとに提唱してきた「関門」という独立した共同体。

日本にあって、県を越境して命名された地名としてかなり集中・凝縮されたエリア「関門」

対岸同士の交流は名前だけに留まらず、時を超えて人の行き来を生んでいます。

例えば、門司（北九州）の人間は東京など本州からはるばる九州へと遊びに来たお客を、わざわざ下関・唐戸に観光に連れて行き、結果として本州を見せるという掟破りの「お・も・て・な・し」を気にも留めずに続けているし、下関の若者は最新のファッションを手に入れに普通に海峡を渡ってやってきたりしています。

そんなことを考えながら「灯火」としても、対岸の話題を積極的に記事にしているわけですが、最近とっても嬉しい気付きがありました。

ふとしたことで Facebookのアクセス解析を見たところ、アクセス元の都市名に面白い記述を見つけました。

Facebookとしての認識なのか、アクセスした個人の認識なのか、正確なことはわかりませんが、下関を福岡の都市だと捉える感覚に、とてもうれしくなってしまいました。

♫ ふたりあわせて関門だぁ ♫
♫ きぃみとぼぉくとで関門だぁ ♫

これからも「関門」として素敵なエリアでありたいですね。

You say SUMMER, I say BEACH!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Yes, we are in the middle of Summer here, Kanmon.

As you all agree, the best place to be in Summer is…

“Beach” (by the Ocean)!

BUT where is Beach in Kanmon???

Both side of Kanmon Straits are covered by quay wall, you must go out, if you want to eat cake by the ocean beach.

Famous wide beach is kinda far from Kanmon area, but I found good beach, where I can go within my lunch break. (Honestly speaking, it is my brother’s recommendation.)

It is artificial beach like Waikiki, not natural beach, but very convenient from Kanmon area. According to beach keeper, the beach was about 10 years old. It is pretty new, isn’t it.

I recommend this beach to busy fathers in Kanmon and Kokura area.

You have a wonderful Summer weekend with kids, sitting on the beach!

「夏といえばやっぱりビーチ！」

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。おはようございます。

天気予報的にいうと、関門地方は毎日夏日が続き、夏本番です。

意義のある人はいないと思いますが、夏を一番夏らしく過ごせるところは、、、
やっぱり「ビーチ」！

でも、、、関門のいったいどこにビーチがあるの？？？

関門海峡の両岸は埠頭岸壁なので、砂浜ビーチに行くなら海峡の外に出なくてはいけません。

この辺りで有名な広いビーチは関門エリアから結構遠いのですが、いいビーチを見つけました。それも、、、わたしにも＜お昼休みにいける便利さ＞です。（正直に言うと見つけたのではなく、かわいい(?)弟に教えてもらったんですが、）

このビーチ、実はワイキキのような人口ビーチで、自然の砂浜ではありません。管理しているオジさんに聞いたところ、出来てまだ10年程しか経っていないようです。新しいでしょ！管理棟の施設もまだまだキレイでした。

このビーチ、関門・小倉エリアにお住まいの忙しいお父さんにオススメです。
片親ファミリーにも。手軽に安く子供と大切な夏の思い出づくりをしましょう。
