Can’t take my eyes off …

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

I can’t take my eyes off “A Man Called Pirate”.

It is not about the Movie, but the real world.

I can’t take my eyes off the company founded by “A Man Called Pirate”.
His company is now in the eye of the storm.

– How to deal with merging with foreign-owned company?
– Founder’s family and current company management can be reconciled?

As I posted before, Moji is the place “A Man Called Pirate” established IDEMITSU.
I concerned current issue with this aspect, but I am more interesting about how Japanese management style survive in this business world, how to change its shape.

My biggest concern is how they treat employee. It is now basic management scheme to change permanent staffs to temp staffs as many as they can. Most of all companies distinguish their employee from their fundamentals and put share holders on the top of structure, as western enterprises are doing.

I can’t take my eyes off the way IDEMITSU, the enterprise which grow employee and grow company together with employee, will take to survive. Will they be like western companies or develop its own special way, like used to do.

When I read “A Man Called Pirate”, I remember the words of Samurai Leader, 500 years ago, “My people is my castle, my stonewall, and my moat” So when I heard about the company which lost the philosophy of “My people is my castle”, I always imagine Kumamoto Castle which was severe damaged by the earthquake this year.
Kumamoto Castle has been said that it can be never damaged because of its strength.

Which is more suitable to the future business world:
– Leader with charisma and responsibility fight and defend with his/her people?
or
– Leader, who concern share holder and consultant more than employee, work for survival of himself?

I feel IDEMITSU is a kind of touchstone which will tell fortune ee of Japanese future. I am not saying that I agree with Idemitsu founder’s family. I just wish IDEMITSU will show us the right way for other Japanese enterprises.

I am searching the progress of this IDEMITSU issue, watching the straits where pirate was running during cleaning guesthouse and being overcome by deep emotion. This is my daily routine in TOUKA.

目が離せない、、、

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

今「海賊と呼ばれた男」から目が離せません！

映画公開の話ではなく、リアルワールドの方。

海賊と呼ばれた男が創った 生粋のにっぽんの会社が揺れに揺れている。

・外資との合併をどうするのか？
・反対する創業家と、現経営陣とは和解できるのか？
先に記事にしたとおり、ここ門司は海賊と呼ばれた男が出光を創業した土地、
そうした視点からも気にはなりますが、もっと気になるのは、日本的経営が将来どういう形で生き延びるのか、どういう形に姿を変えるのか。

特に気になるのは、企業の中の「従業員」の扱い。 正規労働者を非正規に切り替えるのが経費削減の常套手段となった今、「会社」と「社員」とを切り離して考え、頂点に資本家でもある株主を置く欧米型の経営方針が主流となっています。

「人を育てる」ことで大きなリターンを産んできた出光がどんな舵取りをするのか？ 「人はコスト（費用）」と考える欧米型にどれだけ傾倒するのか、独自のスタイルを確立するのか、本当に気になるところです。

「人（従業員）は城（会社）」という考えを忘れただけでなく、かと言って欧米式にも100％乗り換えられない企業を見るにつけ、頑丈・強固と言われながら、今回の震災で無残にも崩れてしまった熊本城を連想するのは自分だけでしょうか？

「人は城、人は石垣、人は堀」、20代を過ごした甲府の名将 武田信玄の言葉が今、頭の中に蘇っています。 小説「海賊と呼ばれた男」を読んだ時、真っ先に連想したのが、この「人は城、人は石垣、人は堀」だからです。

− 責任とカリスマ性を持った創業者が、従業員ともに城を守り、攻める姿が正しいのか？
− 雇われ社長と雇われ重役が、株主の顔色を見ながら、世の中の真似をしながら、保身を貫く姿が正しいのか？

出光の動向は、ある意味日本の将来を占う試金石のような気がします。 決して創業家の考えに賛同しているわけではありません。 今の世の中に合った「にっぽんの企業」のあり方を示してくれると良いなぁと考えています。

本件の成り行きをネットで検索しながら、毎日掃除の合間に海賊していた海を見て、感慨にふける、、、灯火での毎日の日課です。

それでは、会社を信じて明るい日本経済のために今週も一生懸命働きましょう。
