Do you know about new bus service in our town?
It is loop bus route service for the tourists from overseas, provided by local government and bus company. However I don’t see many tourists using this bus yet. ( http://www.kokuraloop.com/index.html )
Biggest weak and disappointing point of this service is:
“This service is only for the tourists from foreign countries.”
This doesn’t mean that I don’t like the policy. It is because the biggest strength of this town is PEOPLE living here. I recognized it after managing guesthouse for more than 2.5 years. What they are impressed most in this town is kindness of the people. They said that they cannot feel it in big cities. Good memories they experienced here was created, when they contacted with local people on the street, station, bus stop and so on.
Unfortunately, this bus service separate tourists from local people. Our strength is never appealed in this service. Even if tourists asked local people, local people can never advice this service, because they can never know/experience this. This is like night market or hot spring outdoor bath only for tourists. This town is special place where tourists can enjoy communication with us, local people. So I feel so disappointed.
Idea of this service might be planned by the people who have ever travel only Waikiki Hawaii. However this town needs the sense or idea from the experience of putting ourselves in tourists’ shoes.
I believe that all we need is to lead tourists into our local community and our daily life, not a orange wrapping bus prepare with expensive budget.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
ご存知ですか？
昨年末から始まった外国人旅行者向けの循環バスサービス！
ご当地自治体と地方のバス会社とがタイアップし、インバウンドを地域の振興に取り込もうと試験的に始めたようですが、どうも見た感じ、利用されている旅行客は少ないようです。( http://www.kokuraloop.com/index.html )
このバスサービスの最大の弱点で最高にもったいないのは、、、
「外国人旅行客しか利用できないこと」です。
日本人に使わせないのが気に入らないのではありません。この街の一番のウリはここに住む人だからです。２年半外国人のおもてなしをしてきて分かりました。彼らが一番感動するのは、買い物ではなくてこの街に住む人の優しさです。大都市では感じられない感覚だそうです。そうした住民との接触は歩道や駅やバス停で偶然・何気なく起きているのです。
残念ながら、このバスサービスは外国人旅行者の動線と、地域住民との動線とを切り離していて、せっかくのウリが活かされることがありません。住民は尋ねられても知らないので、このバスのことを教えてあげることは出来ません。まるでガイジン専用の屋台、温泉露天風呂みたいですね。せっかく地域に受け入れられて溶け込む感覚が味わえる街なのに、残念でしかたありません。
ハワイもワイキキしか海外旅行したことのない人の感覚ではなくて、もうすこし旅する人の気持ちになって企画する姿勢が必要かもしれませんね。
お金をかけて派手にラッピングしたバスを準備するより、地域住民の動線に、外国人旅行客の動線を引き込めば良いだけなんですが、、、、
