What day is it today?

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

I cannot ask Japanese this question, but let me ask, because some people in foreign countries may read this.

Today, Monday, is holiday in Japan called as “Health and Sports Day” though it used be called “Taiiku-no-hi” till three years ago.

So I want to go out

to the beach, of course.

I cannot go out today. Patience is necessary sometimes, isn’t it?

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

日本人にこんな質問すると馬鹿かと思われますが、海外の方にも見ていただいているので、、、

今日月曜日、日本は祝日です。三年前までは「体育の日」、今では「スポーツの日」と呼ばれています。
（個人的にはカタカナ祝日はなんか馴染みません。）

というわけで、スポーツしに出かけたいのですが、、、

でも、今日は出かけられません。たまには我慢も必要ですね。

あらたな大陸へ進出！/ To the new Continent!

To the new Continent!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

The 2nd day of OBON holiday 2017 was fine day in Kanmon
with blue sky, white cloud, and flowing sea!

A group of young guests went out without taking breakfast but
I stayed here enjoying guesthouse life.
Because we have to prepare for early time check-in.

The guest came from new continent for us to welcome.

Yes, Africa!

It is always exciting to welcome the very first guest,
from new country, new continent.

According to her,
Japan this summer is much hotter than her country and
not all people are running marathon,
in her country, Kenya.

I got many new realizations
that there are not a few misunderstandings in our stereo type.

We hope more people will come from this continent, Africa.

あらたな大陸へ進出！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

お盆の連休2日目土曜日の関門エリアは青い空、白い雲、流れる海、3拍子揃っていい天気です。

若いゲストのグループは朝食も取らずに出掛けて行きましたが、早々に新たなゲストのチェックインがあるためお出掛けすることもできず、ここでゲストハウスライフを満喫しています。

新たなゲストは、
「灯火」にとって、その大陸からの初めてのゲストです。

その大陸とは、、、

、、、アフリカ！

新たな国、あらたな大陸から最初のゲストをお迎えするのはいつもワクワクです。

彼女によると、
今年の日本の夏は、彼女のお国よりもずっと暑いそうで、
彼女のお国では、誰もがマラソンを走っている訳ではないそうです。
彼女の国、そう、ケニアでは、、、

日本人の思い込みには少なからず誤解があるようで、
彼女との会話の中で、色々と気付きをいただきました。

自分にとって、まだまだ知らないことの多い大陸、アフリカ。
遠いアフリカからも色々な方に「灯火」を利用いただきたいですね。

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Yes, here comes 3 day holiday in Japan.

Prior to this holidays, many university/collage students in summer vacation started to travel in global point of view.

Our guesthouse is already welcoming such young generations.
Specially female guests.

There have been not a few “women only guests days”.

On such days, I have thought in my mind that
the hard days to grow my daughter as a single father is just for these days.

Because of that experience, I am really confident that I am the man who can understand young girls with similar age as my daughter.

Today is the birthday of my daughter’s daughter, who is my grand daughter.

With taking picture to attach to the birthday mail to her,
I thank for 18 years as a single-father and thank for my daughter !”

さぁ、日本では連休です。

連休に先駆け、グローバルでは大学生他が夏休みに突入し、旅に出はじめています。

当宿「灯火」でも若い女性を中心にゲストが増えています。

なんと、女性客のみの日も少なくありません。

そんな時、ふと思います。

シングルファーザーとして大変してきた日々は、実はこの日のためにあったんだなぁと、、、

そんな経験のおかげで、おそらく世の中の同世代のどの父親よりも、娘世代のことを理解できるオヤジだろうと自負しています。

今日はそんな娘の娘、つまり可愛い孫の誕生日。
お祝いメールに添付するバースデーフォトをゲストにも参加してもらい撮影しながら、あらためてまっすぐに育ってくれた娘に感謝しています。
