North Face

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

In winter, north wind blows so strong in this town locating on the north face (?) of local famous mountains, Kazashi mt. and Yahazu mt. 

Blizzard blew so hard with whistling sound before dawn of 25th.

But when day broke, there was no snow or ice on the steep road in front of this guesthouse.

Our anxiety has not come true, and we are relieved.

Wind was so strong that snow couldn’t stay there.

We heard that the strong cold wave caused serious damage around west asian countries.

We truly hope that there are no problem on our guests and supporters.

P.S. North face sounds good but the residents can’t stop worrying in winter.

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

地域の名峰(?)風師山・矢筈山の北壁にあたるこの町では冬の北風が尋常ではありません。

25日未明にビュービュー音をたてながら吹き荒んでいた吹雪は、、、

一夜明けてみると、路面に着雪・凍結することなくて、

不安は不的中、ホッとしました。

あまりに風が強すぎて吹き飛んでしまったのかもしれません。

今回の寒波、西アジア各地で大きな被害を巻き起こしているようですが、

ゲストさんや支援者に被害がないことを願ってやみません。

それでは、吹雪の合間の素敵な一日を！

P.S.  ノースフェイス、北壁・北側斜面、、、響きが良くて大好きですが、冬は不安が絶えません。

Many risks are hiding in Winter!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

To tell the truth, we had a big trouble during the snowy weekend.

Sunday evening, our earth leakage breaker had tripped suddenly.

At first, I thought that we might be using excess electricity for heaters. But we cannot reset the breaker by ourselves.

Finally we asked Kyushu Electric Power to dispatch maintenance engineer to this guesthouse. And he checked.

Breaker itself had no problem, But input was too high.

Electricity meter had no problem. But input was not stable.

At last, he climbed up the utility pole and found one power line was cut there. According to him, it may be because of the blizzard for three days. He climbed up again and worked there more than one and half hours. Totally more than three hours, we had no power since the trouble began.

It was unexpected power outage, but we had necessary power from our emergent battery and heat and hot waters from our kerosine stove. Same time we called our guest and ask him to enjoy his dinner, take time and not come back soon. So we could make his inconvenience minimum.

It was unexpected trouble but we think we had very practical disaster drill and it was good experience as a guesthouse.

冬は本当にほんとにご用心！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

今回の雪、実はとても大変でした。

日曜の夕方、突然施設内の漏電ブレーカーが落ちました。

最初、暖房で電力を使いすぎたのかと思いましたが、どうやってもブレーカーが復旧しません。

最終的に九州電力のメンテナンスエンジニアに来てもらって調べると、、、

ブレーカー自体には問題はなさそう、ただ入力が異常値。

屋外の電力メーターも問題はなさそう、けれども入力が不安定。

結局、電柱まで登って、電線が切れていたことが判明しました。暴風雪のせいだろうとのこと。そして電柱に登って１時間半以上改修工事。問題発生からトータルで３時間以上、停電状態となりました。

想定外の電力停止でしたが、非常用蓄電池で当面の電力、石油ストーブにより暖房とお湯はなんとか確保できました。その間、外出中のゲストさんにも夕食をゆっくり取ってもらうよう電話でお願いし、ご迷惑は最小限に抑えることが出来ました。

今回思いがけず、実践的な災害訓練が出来て、宿としては良い経験となりました。
