The strength of this city

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

Speaking of population decline and natural population decrease, the host recently visited a certain place in a town related to that issue.

Besides food, clothing, and shelter, what else is a concern when it comes to daily life? It’s definitely…

healthcare and the medical system in the location.

I had witnessed firsthand the medical system in this town, seeing ambulances arrive in less than 10 minutes during my parents’ emergency medical treatment and watching the attentive care provided to emergency patients. 

However, I myself had never received comprehensive medical treatment in this town.

So, where I went to was… a comprehensive health checkup.

This time, I decided to have it done at the general hospital where both of my parents were treated as emergency patients.

In my 40s, when I lived in Tokyo, I had a comprehensive health checkup every year thanks to company subsidies…

However, I’ve been too busy with leisure activities, and since paying the full cost myself would be quite expensive, it’s been a while since my last checkup.

Unlike when I was in Tokyo, I didn’t need to make an appointment well in advance; I could get one for the following week and go to the checkup whenever I felt like it.

Many of the medical staff involved in testing seem to commute from the neighboring city across the strait, which gives a real sense of having ample manpower.

They possess several state-of-the-art medical testing machines, and several radiologic technologists were on staff to assist us.

(Actually, the host used to work for a major foreign-owned medical equipment manufacturer, so he’s fairly knowledgeable about medical devices.)

The testing system is on par with hospitals in Tokyo, and the health guidance based on the initial consultation was thorough, with ample time dedicated to explanations and attentive responses to my questions and concerns.

However still, I think urban-style health checkups, where you can only make a reservation more than two months in advance, and where you get tested in a big city with a large number of other patients on the day, and receive health guidance in an assembly-line fashion, are more reliable.

Since healthcare and medical systems are weak in local areas, it’s probably wiser to live out your life in a big city.

In any case, I’m at an age where I should be more health-conscious than I was in my 40s when I used to get a medical checkup every year, and with classmates passing away at this age, it’s been a good opportunity for me to reconsider my approach and start getting checkups more regularly.

おいらの街の実力

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。 おはようございます。

人口減少・人口自然減といえば、、宿主は先日、それに関連する町のあるところに行ってきました。

生活するにあたって、衣食住以外に気になることといえば、やっぱり、、、

ヘルスケアと医療体制。

医療体制は、両親の緊急医療に立ち会い、10分も経たずにやってくる救急車や、手厚い急患対応を実際に目で見て理解していましたが、自らがこの町で総合医療的診察を受けたことはありませんでした。

というわけで、行ってきたのは、、、人間ドック。

今回は、両親がふたりとも急患でお世話になった総合病院で受けることにしました。

東京にいた４０代は、会社の補助もあったので、人間ドックは毎年受けていましたが、、、

遊びに忙しいことにかまけてきたと同時に、全額個人負担となるとかなりの費用になることから、久しぶりの受診となりました。

東京にいた時のように、ずいぶん先行して予約する必要もなく、翌週の予約が取れて、思い立ったが受診という感覚。

検査医療スタッフは海峡を隔て、隣の市から通勤してくる人も多いらしく、かなり充実しているように感じました。

また医療機器も結構いいやつを複数台有していたり、各機器ごとの操作担当者や放射線技師も数人いるようで安心の検査体制です。

（実は、宿主はかつて大手医療メーカーに勤めていたこともあり、医療機器はそこそこ詳しかったりします。）

東京の病院にひけを取らない検査体制、また問診からの健康指導については、じっくり時間を取って解説、相談にも親身に応対していただきました。

でも、やっぱり二ヶ月ぐらい前からしか予約できなくて、当日の受診者も大勢の大都会で検査を受けて、流れ作業のように健康指導を受ける都会型の人間ドックの方が信頼できますよね。

やっぱり地方ではヘルスケアと医療体制が脆弱なので、大都会生活で天命を全うするのが賢明ですよね。

ともかく、毎年人間ドック検診を受けていた４０代よりも、今まさに健康に意識をおくべき年代だし、同級生も風になって逝っているお年頃なので、ある程度定期的に受診しようと、考えを改める良い機会になりました。
