Different routes after Today!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

As of today, the situation of view from here changed.

Appearances don’t show everything.

However, it is lifted in the other side and it is extended in this side.

Yes, we are talking about semi-emergency coronavirus measures.

But one third of the cars I am seeing on the national road under this hill have Shimonoseki (Yamaguchi prefecture) license plates. Also we have not a few friends there.

Many people come here to work and shop from other side and many people visit there to go to fish-market and driving in the weekend. Both of us share same living area each other.

No matter the situation changes, we will keep good relationship each other, taking care for the infection.

今日から別々の道を進みます！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

週が明けて、景色が変わりました。

見た目には先週と変わりませんが、、、

今日から、この細い海峡の向こう側は「解除」、こちら側は「延長」。

そうです「まん延防止等重点措置」のことです。

でも、このすぐ下の国道を走る車のほぼ1/3は下関ナンバーなんですけどね。知り合いにも対岸の人少なくないですし、、、

向こうからは仕事や買い物に来る人多いし、こちらからは市場やドライブに行く人が多い。生活圏を共有している両岸です。

まぁ扱いが変わっても住んでいる人間は感染に気をつけながら仲良く生活していきましょう。

Don’t make light of this place!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

On Thursday, we have snow falling here in Kanmon area as forecasted.

It didn’t piled up, but when I started my car and moved the wiper to clean dry traces of snow, washer fluid was frozen on the windshield. Temperature might be below zero yesterday.

During the communication with our guests, we have sometimes taught that we have snow here about three times a year and one of three times snow piles up a little. It have often made our guests surprised.

It seemed that they imagined we don’t have snow because Kitakyushu is a part of Kyushu island, the south of Japan.

This place locates in the sea of Japan side as Hokuriku and Sanin area, before in Kyushu island.

なめたらあかん！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

木曜日、ここ関門エリアにも予報どおりに雪が振りました。

積もりこそしませんでしたが、夕方車で出かけようとしてフロントガラスの雪の跡をワイパーできれいにしようとしたら、ウインドウォッシャー液が一気に凍りました。氷点下まで気温が下がっていたようです。

ゲストさんとの会話の中で、ココでも年３度は雪が振り、そのうち一度ぐらいは積もることがあると教えると驚かれることが少なくありません。

きっと北九州だけに九州だから雪はふらないと思い込まれているのでしょう。

けれども、ココは九州である以前に、北陸や山陰と同様、れっきとした日本海側なんです。

それでは、真冬の幕切れを楽しむ素敵な一日を！

クール・ランニング！/ Cool Running!

Cool Running!

Good morning to the World and Kanmon!

In the neighbor country, very hot competitions are being held everyday and many Japanese must feel excited watching the games.

But, as I mentioned before, I have felt uncomfortable watching competitive matches between countries which are broadcasted by mass media and internet, maybe since I have started this guesthouse and hosting guests from various countries.

In such Olympic weeks, I saw very interesting live broadcast when I was driving my car.

It is the Alpine ski competition (giant slalom) with athletes from the countries which never have snow.

The countries are Eritrea, Mexico, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Puerto Rico and so on.

It was impressive that most of the athletes finish the races with smile. ( Sorry for Timor-Leste who did not finish the race though)

And I was very glad to see Jamaican athlete completed his race.

The scene was very reminiscent of old bobsleigh movie I saw long time ago.

( The movie soundtrack CD has been my favorite one and being played in this guesthouse for BGM after rain.)

We think that these athletes, games, and stories, which are not for propaganda, should shared more to the world.
(By the way, this Jamaican athlete is 32 years old and used to be a DJ. He has got professional training for only 2 years before the game.)

I felt like I saw ”L’important, c’est de participer” actually and recognized that it is the most important thing.

クール・ランニング！

世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。

お隣の国では、日々熱戦が繰り広げられていて、日本でも多くの人がテレビやネットに釘付けになっていることと思います。

以前記事にしたこともありますが、どうも自国重視のメディアや応援に違和感を感じています。世界中からやってくるゲストさん相手の宿を初めた頃からでしょうか。

そんな中、車で流していたオリンピック中継で興味深い画像が流れました。

雪の降らない国の選手が参加しているアルペン競技（大回転）です。

エリトリア、メキシコ、タイ、サウジアラビア、プエルトリコ等など。

印象的だったのは、どの選手も笑顔で競技を終えていたこと。（東チモールの選手はコースアウトして残念でしたが、、、）

なかでもうれしかったのはジャマイカの選手の完走！

その姿は、昔見たボブスレーの映画を彷彿させました。

（当時アメリカで買ったサントラ盤は今でも雨上がりにＢＧＭとして活躍中です。）

プロパガンダ的でないこうした選手の参加・競技・ストーリーをもっと共有すべきだと思います。
（このジャマイカの選手は元ＤＪで、３２歳。たった２年間のトレーニングで出場しているそうです。）

参加することに意義がある、、、重要なのはソコだと再認識しました。
