Really!? My precious memories are burned out!
Good morning to the World and Kanmon!
The news about forest fire in California is also well known in Japan, isn’t it?
As I found one scene of a town on TV news, which is in my memory, I’ve checked original detail news in U.S. and find out! The town was where I have visited before and it has been one of my most favorite place to visit again. It was a small town called “Glen Ellen” in Sonoma, CA and the almost all town was burned out.
A fancy restaurant, where I experienced tasting of wines which Sonoma proud of, was gone by the fire.
(That was my first time to watch gay couple touching leg each other under the table. So shocking!)
Japanese taste petit hotel, where I learned oriental tips which western people prefer.
(Other American guests misunderstand myself as a vineyard buyer from China though. So upset!)
The INN, petit hotel, has nicely renovated building from that of originally built in late 1800s.
I have been really planning to visit there again to learn some good tips to running comfortable accommodation with Japanese atmosphere for western people. It was really my secret hideaway in U.S.
Both their clear swimming pool among trees and their whirl pool were gone.
Wooden terrace under blue sky and look down fresh green forest was gone.
Dining room where too beautiful dishes to be called as morning buffet was also gone.
Spa room in their attic for Swedish Massage was gone.
Everything seems to be ash now.
Not only the building, winding road to Napa Valley from the INN and wonderful scenery is gone.
It is very unfortunate that the hotel and the village are no longer exist on this earth.
Because the Inn was renovated from old historical house, it cannot be re-built as it used to be.
I wish all staffs safe escaping from fire and restart of their business even with other new buildings.
I will keep their memory forever in my mind and I try to succeed their warm heart of hospitality in TOUKA to welcome guests.

まさか！？ 大切な思い出がすべて灰になってしまいました！
世界中に朝が、そして関門にもあさが来ました。
おはようございます。
日本でもニュース等で話題になっているカリフォルニアの森林火災。
報道される画像に見覚えのある町角の風景があったので、ネットで調べてみると、
なんとSonomaにあるお気に入りのちいさな町、Glen Ellenのほとんどが消失してしまったようです。
Sonoma自慢のワインをテイスティングしたお洒落なレストランも、
（隣のテーブルにはお洒落なゲイのカップルがいて、お互いの膝を触れ合う姿に、SFエリアらしさをライブで感じました。）
西欧人の好む和風テイストを学んだ瀟洒なホテルも、
（プールでは、ワイナリーを買い付けに来た中国人と間違われた記憶も鮮明です。）
全て焼け落ちてしまったようです。
特に1800年代の終わりに建てられた歴史的な家屋をミニホテルに改修したINN（宿泊施設）は、
いつか落ち着いたら、また利用したいと考えていた、とっておきの場所なのに、、、
木立の中のプールも、ジャクジーも、
青空を見上げ、新緑の森を見下ろすテラスも、
ビュッフェというには美しすぎるほどに飾られた朝食をいただいたダイニングも、
屋根裏部屋にあるSwedish Massageを施してくれるマッサージルームも、
みんな灰になってしまったようです。
INNの前からNAPA バレーへと通じる山道も、そこから見える素晴らしい景色も、、、
ほんとうに残念で仕方ありません。
INNは古い歴史ある住宅をリノベーションした施設なので、
100％元あったままの姿で営業再開することは考えられません。
スタッフ皆さんの無事と、別の形であっても事業の再建が出来ますようお祈りしています。
この素敵なINNの記憶は、自分自身の心の中と、
あの日滞在・体験して、気に入って取り入れている「灯火」の「おもてなし」の中にも生かし続けます。
